Raised in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Justin Lewis has spent a lifetime on the water. From fishing the beaches near his childhood home to exploring the flats, creeks, reefs, and offshore waters throughout The Bahamas and internationally, his passion for fishing and the marine environment began at an early age and has shaped both his career and way of life.

Today, Justin brings 19 years of professional guiding experience throughout The Bahamas as a licensed professional captain and fishing guide. His commitment to exceptional guiding and stewardship of Bahamian fisheries was recognized nationally in 2024, when he was named a Runner-Up for the Bahamas Flats Guide of the Year Award by the Bahamas Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources.

Justin holds a Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Resources, with concentrations in Public Policy and Social Research, from St. Francis Xavier University in Canada, and a Master of Science degree in Marine Environmental Management from the University of York in England. While his education provided a strong scientific foundation, it is the thousands of days spent on the water that have given him an intimate understanding of Bahamian fisheries, tides, weather, and marine ecosystems.

For nearly 12 years, Justin served as the Bahamas Initiative Manager and later Bahamas Research Manager for the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust (BTT), building the organisation's Bahamas program from the ground up. During his tenure, he led and coordinated fisheries research, habitat restoration, and conservation initiatives across the country. His work included developing collaborations between scientists and local guides that advanced understanding of bonefish movement and spawning behaviour, including identifying nine bonefish pre-spawning aggregation sites, helping inform conservation measures and habitat protections throughout The Bahamas.

Justin also established the country's largest mangrove restoration program, planting more than 150,000 mangrove seedlings across Grand Bahama and Abaco while initiating restoration efforts in Crooked Island. He led the first major mangrove creek restoration projects in The Bahamas, developed fisheries education programs, and worked alongside local communities, guides, government agencies, and international partners to protect the marine resources that support Bahamian livelihoods and traditions.

Whether stalking trophy bonefish across pristine white-sand flats, targeting giant permit, exploring remote mangrove creeks, snorkeling vibrant reefs, spearfishing, hunting feral hogs, or simply enjoying a day on the water with family and friends, Justin is passionate about sharing the incredible natural beauty of The Bahamas.
